If you see smoke, dial 911. Be prepared to tell them where you are and the approximate direction and distance of the smoke/fire you are observing.
Stay up to date on Fire Restrictions for your County (see links below)
No matter what the restriction are, all owners and guests must practice extreme care with any kind of fire.
NEVER leave a fire unattended
Outdoor fires of ANY KIND are RARELY allowed, and if allowed must be properly contained, with water and shovels at the ready, and a constant awareness of wind, vegetation, and soil conditions.
No smoking outdoors (in home or vehicle only, with butts properly put out and disposed of)
Chainsaws and other equipment can start a fire, as well as the underside of hot vehicles pull off into tall grass.
Do not allow children to play outdoors with anything that could start a fire.
No outdoor burning of trash is allowed.
Burn Permits are REQUIRED for all outdoor fires, including bonfires, campfires, slash fires, etc. These must be obtained PRIOR to any burning and the guidelines strictly adhered to.
Extinguishing Your Campfire
When you're ready to put out your fire, follow these guidelines:
Allow the wood to burn completely to ash, if possible.
Pour lots of water on the fire, drown ALL embers, not just the red ones.
Pour until hissing sound stops.
Stir the campfire ashes and embers with a shovel.
Scrape the sticks and logs to remove any embers.
Stir and make sure everything is wet and cold to the touch.
If you do not have water, use dirt. Mix enough dirt or sand with the embers. Continue adding and stirring until all material is cool.
Do NOT bury the fire as the fire will continue to smolder and could catch roots on fire that will eventually get to the surface and start a wildfire.
REMEMBER: If it's too hot to touch, it's too hot to leave!
